Collaborative waterways management for a healthier and more resilient water environment

Our Catchments

We care for not one river catchment, but 6! They all flow south into the eastern Solent, so we see our East Hampshire catchment as the eastern Solent River with 6 key tributaries. All are fed from the chalk hills and groundwater of the South Downs National Park and have variable geology along their routes. All have estuaries and some expand into distinctive and designated harbours. All have rural, farmland, urban and coastal parts, and all are increasingly divided by considerable development pressure with linear and bisecting infrastructure (roads and pipelines) threatening nature connectivity. Our catchment area is also home to the first new reservoir in England in over 30 years and potentially to the first ever water recycling facility for drinking water in the UK.

Come and find out more about us and help us care for this unique landscape and waterscape.

How We Work

The East Hampshire Catchment Partnership (EHCP) covers the River Hamble in the west to the Lavant Stream in the east, the top of the River Meon catchment in the north and the Solent to the south. The partnership includes local authorities, statutory agencies, water companies, rural land organisations, charity organisations and local community groups and individuals who have come together to improve water quality across the East Hampshire catchment area through sharing knowledge, best practices and resources. The partnership is committed to the national best practice Catchment Based Approach (CaBA) for collaborative water management.
